James has lived in Stephenson County off and on for most of his life. He graduated from Dakota High School in 1988 and served in the United States Air Force after graduation. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management and Disaster Preparedness from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2003 and a bachelor’s degree in Atmospheric Science at the University of Utah in 2005.

James states, “As a member of the City Council my goals are to strengthen our community through improved infrastructure such as roads, water improvements, sewer improvements, and removing blighted buildings from our great city. I’ll work hard to bring technology-based jobs to Freeport. I will lead an effort to diversify Northwest Illinois’ economy and create a new breed of high-tech, high-wage careers for residents in cutting edge industries such as digital media, sciences, and training.

“Safety and security are at the top of my agenda as Alderman. It is vital every member of our community feels safe and secure! I will ensure our law enforcement partners have the staffing, tools and training to effectively protect our citizens.

“Finally, we need to bring city, county, and regional leaders together to achieve our goals. We must work together to fix our economy and improve our workforce. I will fight to increase cooperation and partnerships between our many governments, its business and civic communities, and residents.
