Police Department COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS
March 26, 2026:
“On March 26, 2026, the Freeport Police Department coordinated a court-authorized collaborated effort with Homeland Security Investigations, the FBI, and IRS Criminal Investigations at multiple locations in Freeport, Illinois. We want to address with clarity and transparency and reassure our residents that this situation is in no way related to immigration matters. It was handled solely as a public safety issue, consistent with our mission to protect and serve all members of our community. Our officers and our Federal partners acted swiftly and professionally to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone involved. We remain fully committed to maintaining a safe environment for all residents, and we encourage the community to continue placing their trust in us as we work diligently to uphold that responsibility. As this investigation remains ongoing, we cannot comment further on it.” – Chief Frausto
February 25, 2026:
“Following U.S. actions against Iran in late February 2026, federal counterterrorism agencies (FBI and DHS) are on high alert for potential retaliatory attacks on U.S. soil. As of March 1, 2026, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the FBI are on high alert for potential retaliatory attacks on U.S. soil. This environment requires local law enforcement to transition from traditional policing to a vigilant awareness while on patrol as a proactive line of detection and prevention.”
