Gertrude Heimerdinger

Director of Community and Economic Development

Gertrude Heimerdinger joined the City of Freeport as the City’s Community and Economic Development Director in October 2025. Heimerdinger spent six years at a Dubuque architectural engineering firm before joining the City. Originally from Pearl City, she graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Architectural Science from the University of Illinois and a Master of Architecture from Lawrence Tech University. She is excited to work with the community, specifically utilizing her background in City planning initiatives and community building.

The Community and Economic Development Director is responsible for programs and initiatives related to the community’s economic vitality, neighborhood diversity and stability, preservation of historical landmarks, and the enhancements of community programs. This position is essential to bettering the quality of life for those who visit, live in, and work in the City of Freeport.
