11-04-2024 City Council Highlights
FREEPORT, IL — Highlights from the November 4, 2024 Freeport City Council meeting include the approval of a digital ticketing system to be implemented by the Freeport Police Department and more.
Electronic Ticketing System
The City of Freeport entered into an Intergovernmental Agreement with Stephenson County to establish, support and maintain an electronic ticketing system.
The Stephenson County Circuit Clerk will cover the implementation cost of $40,000, with the Freeport Police Department putting $9,450 toward other necessary equipment. Benefits of going digital include the improved efficiency of traffic stops, streamlining the process for clerical staff, saving the City money by moving away from the purchase of paper, and more.
Enterprise Zone
With Council’s approval, the Joint Northwest Illinois Enterprise Zone was expanded to include a property at 9432 W. Wagner Road that will be transformed into a fueling station and convenience store by Pearl City Elevator.
The property is positioned just off U.S. Route 20 and will create 8 full-time jobs, 7 part-time jobs, 15 temporary construction jobs, and new tourism and business to the area.
More information about these topics and more can be found in the City Council meeting packet, viewable here: LINK TO AGENDA
