06-03-2024 City Council Highlights

FREEPORT, IL — Highlights from the June 3, 2024 Freeport City Council meeting include the approval of bids to demolish 14 properties on the East side of Freeport.

14 Properties to Soon Be Demolished

Fischer Excavating was approved by council members to oversee the demolition of 12 properties. Kleckner Excavating won the bid to demolish two of the properties. The funding for 12 of these demolitions comes from the DCEO Floodway Mitigation Grant. The other two are funded by the IHDA Strong Communities Program Grant.

“It’s important that the City deals with blighted properties in general,” said Community and Economic Development Director Wayne Duckmann. “But the majority of these specific properties are in a floodway which is consistently being monitored and is a danger to these structures and those around them. We’re happy to be making progress in making our City safer for all our residents.”
