FREEPORT CITY COUNCIL APPROVES GARBAGE RATE FREEZE AND MORE
FREEPORT, IL – Highlights from the June 17, 2024 Freeport City Council meeting include a halted garbage pick-up rate increase for residents, an updated franchise agreement for Comcast service in Freeport and more.
Freezing of Garbage Rate
Council members approved freezing the garbage pick-up rate before the monthly rate increases $2.50 on July 1, 2024. This revised ordinance helps residents by pausing a contract that saw increased rates for several more years.
Per Ordinance 1060.04, the rate for garbage pick-up that customers pay would increase from $21.83 to $24.33 on July 1, 2024. Based on positive balances in the Health and Environment Fund, the City saw an opportunity to allow residents to remain at the lower rate until this detail becomes pertinent again in 2025.
A more detailed list of rates can be found in Codified Ordinance 1060.04
