12-16-2024 City Council Highlights

FREEPORT, IL – Highlights from the December 16, 2024 Freeport City Council meeting include the approval for NILBA to move forward with the renovation of the property at 521 W. Cottonwood St.

NILBA to Work with Leal Homes LLC to Renovate Condemned Home

In 2019, the property at 521 W. Cottonwood Street was condemned. At Monday night’s City Council meeting, the City approved the disposition of 521 W. Cottonwood to the Northern Illinois Land Bank (NILBA), who intends to enter into a redevelopment agreement with Leal Homes LLC to renovate the home in nine months’ time to bring it back to hospitable living conditions. The NILBA has restored 41 properties since its creation in 2019 and has annually put $150,000 back into tax revenue for the communities it serves. This project is in line with the City’s strategic plan of supporting a safe and inclusive community.
