Ward Redistricting Open House
WARD REDISTRICTING OPEN HOUSE AUGUST 16, 2022
With the certification of the 2020 US Census, the City of Freeport saw a loss in population from 25,682 to 23,973. With the decline in population, the boundary map must be amended to remain within state compliance.
Population change was most noticeable in Ward 3 (-559 residents), Ward 2 (-442 residents), and Ward 5 (-417 residents). These wards accounted for 85.7% of Freeport’s population loss. When redistricting, each ward should now average 3,425 residents or as close as possible.
City Staff has proposed 3 redistricting maps (LINKED BELOW) to be considered.
