FREEPORT, IL — Highlights from the August 18, 2025 Freeport City Council meeting include the demolition of seventeen dangerous properties and steps being taken to begin the Walnut Avenue Lift Station.

Seventeen Properties Approved for Demolition

The demolition and asbestos abatement of seventeen properties was approved by council through the funding of the IHDASCP and FEMA Floodway grant programs. Alber & Son Earthworks will perform all seventeen demolitions.

Other News

18th Avenue in Freeport will be repaved by the end of October 2025 thanks to an agreement with the solar company (Recon Corporation) that developed a solar energy field at the east end of 18th Avenue. As part of the agreement, Recon will contribute $440,000 towards improvements to the road work.
