ComEd Offers City of Freeport Opportunity to Receive Funding for Street Lights

FREEPORT, IL – In 2024, Freeport was added to the ComEd Select Communities list. Out of ComEd’s 400 different communities they serve in Illinois, 120 of them are a part of this list.

The program allows for Select Communities to apply for and receive up to 100% funding of all energy efficiency projects within the city. Each project is applied for separately and requires at least 1-3 months to complete the application process.

The City of Freeport is working diligently to provide improved street lighting in areas of the City by the Summer of 2025 and beyond, with plans to target IDOT corridors and residential areas identified by law enforcement as being in need.
