Route 26 Outside Lanes to be Closed Six to Eight Weeks for IDOT Storm Inlet Repairs

FREEPORT, IL – West Street (Route 26) traffic will be narrowed down to one lane, North and South, for six to eight weeks, starting Monday, April 22, as the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) works on storm inlet repairs between South Street and Lamm Road.

Repairs are being provided to the damaged storm structures from years of plow and salt damage.

“The City of Freeport appreciates IDOTs’ assistance in improving the community infrastructure,” said Fehr Graham’s Darin Stykel. “Please be patient and reduce speeds in the construction corridor while improvements are happening to provide worker safety and reduce accidents.”

IDOT bid contractors will begin working Monday, April 22. Outside lanes on West Street between South Street and Lamm Road will be closed for the duration of the work.
