Construction on IL Rt 26

CONSTRUCTION: 2023

Several projects throughout the City of Freeport are anticipated to begin this month. Please note the following current closures as well as start dates for other construction projects.

UPCOMING CONSTRUCTION:

• IL RT 26:The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced that, weather permitting, construction on Illinois 26 in Freeport will begin Monday, April 24. Drivers may notice prep work occurring this week. This IDOT work zone will be from Fairgrounds Road to South Street and in-roadway work along is expected to be completed by June 1.Work will include pavement patching. Northbound and southbound mainline traffic will be open to two-way traffic, with one lane open in each direction.

  Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zone along IL Rt. 26. Please observe posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices, and be alert for workers and equipment.
