City Meeting in Freeport Illinois

Notice of Election

The City of Freeport will hold an election to nominate candidates for the offices of Alderman Ward 2, Alderman Ward 4, Alderman Ward 6, Mayor, and City Clerk on the following dates:

  • Consolidated Primary will be held on February 23, 2021
  • Consolidated Election will be held on April 6, 2021

The terms of office for these positions will be four-year terms.

For nomination petitions and required documentation, please consult the 2021 Candidate’s Guide and 2021 Local Election Officials Handbook.  A copy of these documents may be obtained through the website of the Illinois State Board of Elections at https://www.elections.il.gov/; select “Publications”, then “Election Guides” dropdown. These documents contain petition forms, election information, signature requirements, and filing guidelines. Please visit the website for the Illinois State Board of Elections periodically for any changes or amendments to the 2021 Candidate’s Guide or 2021 Local Election Officials Handbook.

Petitions may be circulated beginning Tuesday, August 25, 2020. Candidates in the City of Freeport will be required to file their nominating petitions in the Office of the City Clerk, 314 W. Stephenson St., during regular business hours from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Established party candidates are to file their petitions from Monday, November 16, through Monday, November 23, 2020. Independent or new party candidates are to file their petitions from Monday, December 14, through Monday, December 21, 2020. On December 21, 2020, the Clerk’s office will be open until 5:00 pm. City Hall will be closed Thursday and Friday, November 26 & 27, 2020.
